Effect of grain boundary energy anisotropy on highly-textured grain structures studied by phase field simulations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Two-dimensional phase field simulations were performed of grain growth in highly textured materials with equal fractions of 2 texture components, denoted as α and β grains, and assuming 2 values of the grain boundary energies, namely σlow for the boundaries between grains of a different texture component and σhigh for boundaries between grains of a similar orientation, resulting in microstructures with alternating α and β grains and stable quadruple junctions. For different magnitudes of the anisotropy in grain boundary energy R = σhigh/σlow, the occurrence of the different types of triple and quadruple junctions and the distributions of the normalized grain size, the number of faces per grain, the normalized grain boundary length per grain and the dihedral angles at grain boundary junctions were investigated.

متن کاملA phase-field model of stress effect on grain boundary migration
We developed a phase-field model to study the stress-driven grain boundary migration in elastically inhomogeneous polycrystalline materials with arbitrary elastic inhomogeneity and anisotropy. The dependence of elastic stiffness tensor on grain orientation is taken into account, and the elastic equilibrium equation is solved using the Fourier spectral iterative-perturbation method. We studied t...
متن کاملAn Overview of Accomplishments and Challenges in Recrystallization and Grain Growth
The study of microstructural evolution in polycrystalline materials has been active for many decades so it is interesting to illustrate the progress that has been made and to point out some remaining challenges. Grain boundaries are important because their long-range motion controls evolution in many cases. We have some understanding of the essential features of grain boundary properties over t...
متن کاملPinning effect of second-phase particles on grain growth in polycrystalline films studied by 3-D phase field simulations
Three-dimensional simulations of grain growth in thin films containing finely dispersed second-phase particles were performed using a phase field model. The simulations show that although the growth behavior of the columnar grain structures in thin films is essentially two-dimensional, the interaction between the particles and the grain boundaries is three-dimensional. Grain boundaries can ther...
